The OPAL experiment at LEP has performed a variety of measurements of γγ and eγ scattering at the ee collider LEP to gain a deeper insight into the structure of the photon and its interactions. This review presents a summary of these results.

A simple model of spacetime foam, made by N wormholes in a semiclassical approximation, is taken under examination. We show that the qualitative behaviour of the fluctuation of the metric conjectured by Wheeler is here reproduced.

The status of the standard model is briefly reviewed in the light of the most recent set of experimental data, with particular emphasis to the limits on the Higgs boson mass. The search for a light Higgs boson at LEP 2 is also briefly analyzed.

Searches at the ep collider HERA for supersymmetric partners of the Standard Model fermions are presented. Assuming R-parity conservation, selectrons and squarks of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model are excluded for masses up to 65 GeV in a new region of the standard parameter space. Admitting in addition a R-parity violating Yukawa coupling λ ′ , squarks are sought through direct e-q f...
